Outlook 2003 peculiarity
« on: December 09, 2009, 07:55:30 AM »
Hi all, hope you're all well.

Recently I backed up my Outlook 2003 e-mails and calendar. I did this via "File \ Import and Export \ Export to File \ Export Personal Folder File (.PST)

All this went smoothely. However, now, each time I open Outlook it seems to look for this backup file and states that its not where it thinks it is (that's because the drive that I backed up to is a removable one). When I click the top right hand corner "x" to exit the box, everything returns to normal.

Everything is working fine otherwise, just this annoying, niggly "I'm looking for that file you backed up" behaviour everythime I start Outlook.

As ever, most grateful for any advice you can offer folks.

Gwyn.

That's a pretty easy one to fix (hopefully!)

In your Folder List you should find one tree for your main mailbox (Inbox, Calendar, etc) and then one from the backup (which can't be expanded as it can't find it), usually called 'Personal Folder' unless you renamed it. If it's there right click and 'Close Personal Folder' should remove it from the list.

If you're not sure just try expanding root folders until you get an error saying it can't be opened, that'll be the .pst!

I have exactly the same problem with the laptop at work.

I shall go in tomorrow and impress them by sorting it out!   ;D

Thanks

Is this the sake process to backup the pst file when transporting between new builds?

I have a lotta contacts in my Outlook ????
Understeer is when you hit the wall with the front of the car and oversteer is when you hit the wall with the rear of the car. Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall, torque is how far you take the wall with you.

Well, I went in the next day and the Outlook problem was solved by the burglar who stole the laptop at the weekend!  So now I can't impress them by solving the problem.

The boss isn't too impressed either by a copy of Outlook costing £115 if you buy it from Microsoft!
