does an expensive hdmi lead for tv make much improvement in picture quality either in sd or hd compared to the cheap ones supplied with the equipment

Only if you're a real fanatic.  I doubt whether the leyman would notice a lot of difference between a £200 one and  £5.00 one.  I suppose if you could afford the very best TV/BlueRay player etc then a top of range hdmi cable would show it off at it's best.

Mine cost about 3 quid and works fine  :)

Hello

From another Forum...

All "high quality" overpriced digital cables are a con, since they are digital there is no quality loss due to the cable materials. An HDMI cable will either work or it wont, theres no slider of quality, its just the same 0's and 1's all the time.

Non-digital analog cables is a different story.

and its correct.......

But just think of what could happen if a 2 got mixed in with all those 1's and 0's!

Bender: Ahhh, what an awful dream. Ones and zeroes everywhere... and I thought I saw a two.
Fry: It was just a dream, Bender. There's no such thing as two.

There are 10 types of people in this world, those that understand binary and those that don't... :D

On HDMI cables, I paid £15 for mine but only because it was the same make as my TV and assumed this meant it might be a bit better (Panasonic). But I'd never pay any more than that.

Hoping this is the right thread - here goes

I remember a bit from ch5's gadget show, the last series i think.  Don't quote me exactly on this but they tried out 3 leads i think - a cheapo couple of quid one, a mid range £15 one , and a stupidly expensive £100 plus one.  They tried each lead on the same player and same tv, put the tv's next to each other and couldn't make out any difference!

The only thing i would say is ( it isn't really relevant to hdmi leads due to their physical attributes) when it came to scart leads for example where i'm sure the same is true concerning quality and price, i would always steer clear of the mega cheap 'poundworld' type ones - purely due to the fact you could give them a little sqeeze and you could see that they weren't so well manufactures as the plug would deform and go out of shape.  Then again as long as a pin goes in the right hole there's probably nothing to worry about.

Ive NEVER paid for a lead .... always got one free because if they dont hand one over when am buying a device or peripheral ... I put said peripheral back on shelf or make them hoof it back to their back room for someone else to buy !!
