More Delays for Half-life Sequel? by turnitonagain @ 8:42 pm

According to a recent GameSpot article, we could be looking at even longer delays for Half-Life 2. The eagerly anticipated sequel is finished and raring to go, but now there are fears that it will be held up by the game's publisher Vivendi Universal Games.

It seems that Vivendi are angry with Valve (HL2's developer) for publicly pushing for a September release of the game. With Vivendi's contract giving them up to 6 months to release HL2, it could push the launch into 2005. As the article states, this could be posturing with regard to an earlier lawsuit involving Vivendi and Valve concerning copyright infringement.

Letting off Steam

Those of you who use the Valve software Steam will have noticed that you can preload you PC with an encrypted copy of Half-Life 2. Enticing as this sounds, unlocking your copy is still closely tied with the game's release so it won't allow Steam users to play the game early (barring the hour or so that it will take me to run down to the shops!).

Looking around at the usual online game retailers, it seems that the beginning of November is the current estimated release date. For the sanity of myself and other gamers, lets hope that it's sooner than that and, most definitely, NO LATER!
